Web Design

For this project, we chose a website of our choice to re-design the logo and homepage.
I originally wanted to use the website 'Loudwire' which is a website for rock/metal music fans, with all the latest news on their favourite bands and supplies them with the latest news feed and information, along with links to music and videos and concert information and dates.
However, I looked at the logo for this site again in more depth and decided that this logo could be improved anymore or changed.

This is the Loudwire logo. The text is a basic font, which is bold and easy to read, and the guitar gives the views a slight insight to what the website is about and has to offer. I particularly like the slashes through the letters in 'loud' because they show, in my opinion, the sound waves coming from the guitar. Also, I like the faded imagery behind the text.

So instead, I have chosen to do the 'Blue Banana' website, which is an alternative clothing site. This website supplies the latest fashion from all the alternative brands, such as; Hell Bunny, Dark Kitty, Living Dead Soul, Iron Fist and many more. Also, they sell band mechendice by some of the biggest rock bands about, for example; Black Veil Brides and MCR. The website is easy to navigate round and the products sold are up to date and sold at a reasonable price for these designer brands. This site is mostly aimed at students and young adults, but is also viewed by people who are older too. In the future, I hope that this site will continue to sell clothing by these top and popular brands, also expand their band merchendice.

Good and Bad Logos
Good Logos:
BURGER KING
I think the Burger King logo is good because it is simple, recognisable worldwide and it relates to the subject matter - the name acting as a burger between two cobs. It is an original design and works well. The text is bold and stands out from the imagery, also, the designers have only used the primary colours, red, blue, yellow and white, so it is simple and not over the top.

MOZILLA FIREFOX
This logo is also good because it is clear what the logo is selling to the audience, using just images. Unlike the Burger King logo and similar logos, it is not as simple and uses more detail than others, but ~I think it works well, without going over the top. It is an original design that appeals to the audience.

Bad Logos:
MAOAM

Looking at the Maoam logo, you can tell that the company and designers were trying to make the logo fun and attractive with the bright colours and the characters, aiming it particularly at children, but the designers did not see how rude and offensive the characters portrayed.
Like the burger King logo, the text is bold and simple, and the designers tried to relate the images to the subject matter, but were unsuccessful.

IKEA

Another bad logo is the IKEA logo. Even though it is easy to read and is simple, the colours are boring and the logo has no relation at all to what the company is trying to sell to its market. It also doesn't look like an original design.

Stanley Donwood
Stanley Donwood's work veers from newspeak graphics and introspective illustration, consisting of a strong combination of personal and political emotions with meaning and humour. His art can come across as funny, gross, shocking, stunning or just plain wrong. He creates very powerful visuals; well known is for the band Radiohead, giving them a creative identity. Without him, there would be no Radiohead Bear.

I really love this piece; it is a really strong image and is eye-catching. He has cleverly used paint splats and other painting techniques, to build upon the image, which looks as though they have been done using computer programs. To me the image shows how he sees the world in his eyes, expressing his 'everyday life'. The colours used, combine together to build a contrasting image, and both the text and images make the piece unique and reflects him.

This is one of Radioheads album covers 'In Rainbows', which Donwood designed. He has used mixed media to come up with image, using photography, paint and computer programs. Again, the colours work well together and reflect the subject matter. It is eye-catching and unique.

Overall, Stanley Donwood's work is unique and daring, by using bold imagery and media techniques.
